3 Ways to Give Back to Your Community

I always wonder to myself, "How can I make an impact in this crazy world"?  This past 4th of July I could not help but to feel a little guilty stuffing my face and enjoying my freedom with the creeping reminder that so many people do not share the same freedom or privileges I enjoy.

As an empath it has been so hard to come to terms with how much pain there is in my community alone. Witnessing an ever growing homeless population, dear friends affected by the me-too movement, and school shootings over the past year really had me feeling hopeless.

What snapped me out of this funk was the famous Serenity Prayer I learned in a therapy session, " Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference".

I decided to shift my focus from the things I have ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER onto how I can best respond to them. After much brainstorming, some soul-searching, and a bit of prayer I came up with a way to put this idea into action.

As a result of all that, I came up with Three Practical Ways that we can ALL use to give back to our communities while sprinkling a little more love to others along the way!

1. Give Your Time

Let's be real. The most valuable thing we all have the ability to give in some way is our TIME. We all devote our personal time to the things we cherish. Our favorite Netflix shows, our closest friends, a once-in-a-lifetime concert opportunity, exercise - you get the picture! While it's great and super vital that we make time for ourselves, it's even more awesome to use this resource to help someone in need or an individual going through a tough time.

Some practical ways to do this are:

*Babysit for your friend who's a single parent

*Volunteer at a local food bank

*Join a non-profit foundation

*Call a loved one you haven't checked on in a while

Those are just a few ideas of how to make a meaningful impact in the world, and there are so many other creative possibilities when we put our mind to it. I think it all comes down to paying forward your time in a way that is sacrificial and meaningful for you.

2. Give Your Money

This one is simple enough. Money goes a long way in assisting charities, special missions, and disaster relief organizations. And guess what? If you ain't got it like that there's no need to feel guilty. We all have something worth of value that can be used to better someone's situation.

Some practicals are:

*Donate your unused clothes, furniture, and home goods to a local resale store or women's abuse shelter.

*Donate money or goods to your favorite charity. Lately my personal favorite is Baby2Baby.

*Donate to a cause through your church.

*Send flowers to a chronically ill loved one.

*Buy a meal and/or essential supplies for a homeless local.

*Participate in a fundraiser.

Go ahead and google some of these things. You will find pages upon pages of organizations asking for aid. The needs are always there so any bit of assistance whether it be money or toiletries make a HUGE difference.

3. Use Your Passion

Lastly, everyone has a natural born gift . That is one of the many things that makes us all so extraordinary! Personally, I have always loved writing and thanks to many great English and Writing teachers it has become a great way for me to speak up on topics like this.

One thing that has always resonated with me as a Christian is how my gift is meant to be SHARED; after all we don't call it a GIFT for nuthin'!  Otherwise it'd be a waste of God's hard work in making me special. The same goes for YOU! Nope I don't wanna hear none of that "I'm not good at anything" nonsense because that is straight up false!

Whether you are awesome with numbers, makeup, photography, cooking, styling, hair, sports, teaching, coaching, organizing, nutrition, and so on YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH IT! I also say the same goes for overcoming major trials such as cancer and abuse.

Some practicals are:

*Create a community with people who share your passion via real life, Facebook page, or Groupchat.

*Spread awareness on a major issue through social media.

*Use your following to promote other people's passions.

*Use your party planning skills at for charitable events.

*Share your frugal shopping expertise to fellow middle-class citizens ;)

The list is unending for what you can do with your niche. Use it and share it because it is there for a reason!

Remember that giving back to your community comes in many different forms. However you choose to do it is based on what makes the most sense for YOU! And also remember that there is never any amount of giving that can ever be INSIGNIFICANT because you are far from that!

Thank you guys for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend!
